Delhi Rains: Heavy Downpour Leads To Waterlogging At Several Places; Cop’s Car Falls Into Sinkhole; Man Drowns In Flooded Underpass
Delhi woke up to incessant overnight rains on July 19 morning that caused waterlogging in several parts of the city. The national capital registered 70 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast "light to moderate intensity rain" over Delhi and NCR during the day. The weather department issued an advisory suggesting "slippery roads and traffic disruption" due to thunderstorms and rain. IMD also advised people to "stay indoors, close windows and doors and avoid travel if possible" and not to take shelter under trees.
The city recorded a minimum temperature of 24.2 degrees Celsius, three points below the normal for the season. Meanwhile, a policeman driving through Dwarka area in Delhi had a close shave when the car was swallowed in bonnet first as the road below collapsed following incessant overnight rain. The white SUV was later pulled out with the help of a crane, the Delhi Police said. A 27-year-old man drowned after he waded into a waterlogged railway underpass and slipped allegedly while trying to shoot a video on his cellphone.
