Delhi surpassed Mumbai in the tally of coronavirus cases on June 24. Delhi has now become India’s worst-hit city. 3,788 new cases of the deadly infection were reported taking the total to 70,390, 862 more than the financial capital of the country, Mumbai. Delhi’s death toll has risen to 2,365 with 64 fatalities reported in the past 24 hours. However, this number is lower than Mumbai where 3,964 people have died since March. Over the past 24 days, Mumbai’s everyday numbers have been stable but Delhi numbers have jumped significantly with a huge spike seen in the last week. Meanwhile, India recorded its biggest surge in the number of coronavirus cases in 24 hours for a second consecutive day with 16,922 new patients. India now has 4,73,105 cases with 14,894 deaths. India is the fourth worst-hit country in the world by the pandemic after the United States, Brazil and Russia. Five states in India, Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh - have reported over 80 per cent of deaths in the country linked to coronavirus.
