Delhi Lockdown From April 20 To 26, Summer Vacation Announced Effective Immediately; CM Arvind Kejriwal Urges Migrant Workers Not To Leave The City
CM Arvind Kejriwal announced a 6 day lockdown in Delhi from 10 pm on April 19 till 5 am on April 26. Delhi is the worst-hit city in India with 25,500 fresh cases on April 18 & almost one-third of those tested returning positive. In the last 24 hours, the number of cases remain high despite a dip - 23,500. Total cases in Delhi stands at over 8.5 lakhs. Delhi is facing acute shortages of hospital beds, medical oxygen supplies & key medicines such as the anti-viral Remdesivir, said Kejriwal. Meanwhile, soon after the announcement, thousands of migrant workers thronged bus stations to leave the city. Kejriwal urged the migrant workers to not return to their native places in fear of lockdown. Large queues were seen at several liquor stores in Delhi moments after Kejriwal announced a six-day lockdown. Meanwhile, the Delhi government on April 19 advanced the summer vacation in all schools in the national capital in view of the Covid-19 situation. The vacation which was scheduled from May 11 to June 3 has now been rescheduled from April 20 to June 9.
