Delhi HC Rebukes Arvind Kejriwal Govt for Order To Reserve 5-Star Ashoka Hotel For Judicial Officers

The Delhi High Court on April 27 said it had never asked for Covid-19 facilities at a five-star hotel. The Delhi High Court ordered the city government to "immediately withdraw" its decision to assign 100 rooms at the hotel Ashoka exclusively for judges & their families. Why did you cause this sort of a controversy?” asked the judges. The judges were apparently upset at questions raised over luxury Covid-19 facilities set aside for them at a time people are struggling for hospital beds. The Delhi government said there was no malice behind the move. It was the media that had created the perception, it said, explaining that many hotels in the city had been turned into Covid-19 facilities attached to hospitals. But the explanation did not work with the court. Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has given directions to cancel the order. Chanakyapuri sub-divisional magistrate Geeta Grover had said in an order that 100 rooms at the Ashoka would be turned into Covid-19 rooms for judges, judicial officers & their families.  Delhi recorded 381 deaths over the last 24 hours, the highest since Covid-19 reached the city last year.
