COVID-19 Toll In India Crosses 35000 With 1993 New Cases In Last 24 Hours; Biggest Single-Day Jump

India recorded the biggest single-day jump of 1993 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. The numbers now stand at 35,043 cases with 1,147 deaths. On May 1, the Union health ministry said that 73 deaths linked to the deadly COVID-19 were reported from different parts of the country since April 30. The Union Health Ministry said that the country's recovery rate hovers around 25 per cent, the mark it reached on April 30. Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry said, “The total recovery rate in our country is presently at 25.19 per cent. We are observing a progressive trend in the recovery rate. If we see the recovery rate 14 days back, then it was 13.06 per cent which has now gone up to 25 per cent. This is a positive sign.” The mortality rate due to the disease is 3.2 per cent in India, lower than the global death rate of 7.07 per cent. As per government data, a total of 130 districts across the nation are marked as hotspots or Red zones where strict containment measures are in place. 284 districts have been identified as Orange Zones. 319 districts are marked as Green Zones. In Maharashtra - the worst-hit state in the country due to coronavirus outbreak - the COVID-19 count crossed the 10,000-mark.
