On November 13, the United Nations climate talks ended with a deal that for the very first time targeted fossil fuels as the main reason for global warming. This came even as coal-reliant countries had objections. The pact won applause for keeping alive the hope of containing global warming at 1.5 degree Celsius. However, several of the nearly 200 nations hoped they would come away with more. Reportedly, Alok Sharma, was visibly emotional as he told nations that it was important to protect the agreement as a whole. Boris Johnson, UK Prime Minister said he wished the world would look back on COP26 as the beginning of the end of climate change. India, backed by China and other coal-dependent developing countries, rejected a clause calling for the phase out of coal-fired power, reported Reuters.
