After a group of social activists met Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh over the Silger protest, the tribals scaled down the 28-day long massive protest on June 9. The villagers, however, said that protest will continue with less number of people. The activists cited fear of Covid-19 spread and farming as the reasons behind this big decision.
The villagers had been protesting against a new police camp set up at Silger. On May 17, the protest, that allegedly had Maoists dressed as tribals, turned violent. Police retaliated and opened fire, during which four people had died, reported The Times Of India. Police maintained that all the people killed were Maoists. Watch the video to know more.
