Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa tweeted late on August 2 that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. In a brief post on Twitter, Yediyurappa said that he was fine but had been hospitalised on the advice of doctors. While his daughter Padmavathi has also tested positive for the virus, the Chief Minister's son, Vijayendra, has tested negative. Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has also tested positive for COVID-19. Recently, DMK MLA Palakadai Anbazhagan died after contracting coronavirus. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh minister Kamal Rani Varun, who had earlier tested positive for the novel coronavirus, died due to the infection in Lucknow on August 2. The number of the novel coronavirus has reached 18,03,695 in India with 38,135 deaths being reported.
