Basavraj Bommai Replaces BS Yediyurappa As Karnataka Chief Minister

Basavaraj Bommai  will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka  on July 28. Bommai, who was the state home minister under BS Yediyurappa, was elected as the new leader of the BJP party in Karnataka after the sitting chief minister BS Yediyurappa resigned.

Bommai’s rise as the chief minister seems to be aimed at appeasing rebellion among the state’s ranks who had risen up against Yediyurappa while trying to hold on to the Lingayat votebank which has historically backed the former CM. Bommai too belongs to the Lingayat community like his predecessor. Bommai’s name was proposed at the legislature party meeting on July 27 evening by Yediyurappa & supported by seven others.

Bommai joined the BJP in 2008, after switching from Janata Dal (United). He is the son of the late S R Bommai who has also been the chief minister of the state. Watch the video to know more.
