Lionel Messi won the 2019 Ballon d’Or award. Messi was announced the world’s best men’s footballer at the Ballon d’Or Awards 2019 ceremony in Paris, France. Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk finished second in the race. Messi’s arch-rival and five-time winner Ballon d’Or Cristiano Ronaldo came third despite a disappointing last year with Juventus. Megan Rapinoe won the Ballon d'Or Feminin award. Alisson Becker wins Yachine Trophy and Matthijs de Ligt wins Kopa Trophy.
