Assam: Police Carry Out Evictions, Two Civilians Killed, Nine Policemen Injured, Violence Caught On Camera

On September 23, two civilians were killed in Assam's Darrang district. Nine policemen were left injured in the violent act. The incident took place during an anti-encroachment drive which led to a brutal clash between the people protesting the eviction and the police. The violence was caught on camera. Policemen chased and attacked protesters. The policemen in riot gear and armed with guns and sticks, even fired shots. Shocking visuals showed a government cameraman filming the clash & attacking a protester who had earlier followed him with a stick. The protester was beaten up by the policemen. The police have arrested the cameraperson. DGP Assam, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta tweeted, “The cameraman who was seen attacking an injured man in a viral video has been arrested.” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "Assam is on state-sponsored fire.”
