Ashraf Ghani, Deposed Afghanistan President Says He Left Country To Prevent Bloodshed

In a statement released on September 8, Ashraf Ghani, ousted Afghanistan President, said leaving Afghanistan was the "most difficult decision" of his life. Ghani expressed regret that his "own chapter" ended in tragedy similar to his predecessors. In an initial statement, the former Afghan president had said that he was 'forced' to leave the country and did so to 'avoid bloodshed'. Ghani and his family were granted asylum in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 'humanitarian grounds'. “Leaving Kabul was the most difficult decision of my life, but I believed that it was the only way to keep the guns silent and save Kabul and her 6 million citizens,” Ashraf Ghani said in his latest statement.
