Ashraf Ghani, Afghanistan's Ousted President & Family In UAE, Gulf Nation Says 'Asylum On Humanitarian Basis'
Ashraf Ghani, former Afghan President landed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after fleeing from Afghanistan. UAE confirmed that Ghani is in the Gulf nation. The Gulf Nation says Ghani and his family have been welcomed in UAE on ‘humanitarian grounds’. Ghani now says that he supports talks between the senior members of the Taliban and top former officials. He also denied allegations that he transferred large sums of money out of the country before fleeing. The former Afghanistan President, making his first appearance since fleeing from Kabul on August 15 said that he had left the country in order to spare the people more bloodshed. Ghani also said he was making efforts to "safeguard the rule of Afghans over our country”. Ghani claimed that the Taliban had entered Kabul despite an agreement not to do so.
