Ahmed Patel, Senior Congress Leader Contracts Coronavirus; India’s COVID-19 Tally Nears 64 Lakh With Close To 1 Lakh Deaths

Ahmed Patel, senior Congress leader on October 1 tested positive for COVID-19. Patel has gone into self-isolation at his residence in Delhi. Announcing it on Twitter, he urged all those who have come in close contact with him recently to self-isolate themselves. Many Congress leaders, including Abhishek Singhvi, Siddaramaiah, D K Shivakumar, Deepender Hooda, Tarun Gogoi have tested positive for COVID-19. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari and Pralhad Patel have also been infected with COVID-19. A number of MPs had tested positive for COVID-19 during the routine tests in the Parliament while Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi had succumbed to the infection on September 23. The total number of deaths in India linked to the novel coronavirus inched closer to the one lakh-mark with 1,095 new fatalities logged in the past 24 hours, government data showed on the morning of October 2. The overall figure now stands at 99,773. The past 24 hours also revealed 81,484 new coronavirus cases, which takes the total number of confirmed cases in the country to nearly 64 lakh.
