Afghanistan Rocked By 6.1 Magnitude Earthquake, Death Toll At 280; Khost, Paktika Provinces Hit

On June 22, at least 280 people were killed after an earthquake of magnitude 6.1 rocked Afghanistan. The toll is likely to rise, reported Reuters. Hundreds of people have been left injured. Videos and pictures show houses reduced to rubble. Salahuddin Ayubi, interior ministry official, told Reuters that in the province of Paktika 255 people had been killed and more than 200 injured. Ayubi said in Khost province, 25 people had been killed and 90 taken to hospital. Helicopters were being used to reach the injured and provide medical supplies and food.
