Afghanistan: Airport Evacuation In Chaos As Mothers Throw Children Over Wall In Desperation, At Least 12 Dead In Crossfire
The United States on August 19 said its troop strength on the ground at the Kabul airport stands at more than 5,200. US Army Major General William “Hank” Taylor said the city’s Hamid Karzai International Airport remains “secure and open for flight operations.” Till now, the US has evacuated approximately 7,000 total people. Meanwhile, distressing videos from the Kabul airport showed desperate people passing their toddlers to US soldiers on the other side of the airport wall. People passed on their children to the US soldiers with a hope that they would be able to put on any of the evacuation flights. Videos which have gone viral show hundreds of people standing outside the Hamid Karzai International Airport in hope of getting a place on the exit flights. Heartbreaking visuals have been coming in everyday from the Kabul airport since the Taliban took over the country.
