YouTube is not just a video sharing platform, it also offers private messaging feature among friends. With this feature, people can share their YouTube videos with friends, which is the reason why Google introduced this in-app messaging feature. YouTube users can send private messages to their friends to share videos and chat within a dedicated tab in the YouTube mobile app, which is reportedly being shut down. According to the company, this private messaging feature will be removed soon. The users will not be able to send private messages on YouTube after September 18. Initially reported by 9to5Google, the feature was introduced to web last year in May. The company haven't given much insight about the decision for the closure of the feature.

However, the company mentioned that it is focusing on public conversations with updates to comment, post and share stories. But, the company didn't explain why Messages Feature is no longer a priority.

It is believed that one of the main reason is that the feature is under-utilised. As majority of people have invested in messaging apps like Messenger, WhatsApp, WeChat or iMessage. When the company launched YouTube Messages, it also invested in Allo, Duo, Hangouts, Google Voice and Android Messages.
