New Delhi, August 27: YouTube has reportedly increased the cost of its Premium plans in India. The price hike of premium plans is approximately 50 per cent for certain plans, which particularly impacts family pack subscribers. The rise in subscription fees might get the attention of many YouTube users in India, who rely on the video streaming platform for uninterrupted viewing experience. The platform has also hiked the prices of its individual and student plans by around 12 to 15 per cent.
As per a report of Money Control, YouTube has hiked the cost of its premium plans in India, resulting in the family pack fee rising by over 50 per cent. Users who were paying a certain amount for uninterrupted access to YouTube’s exclusive features will now have to spend more for the premium features. The new prices are already in effect. YouTube has begun sending emails to current users informing them about the price hike. To continue their subscription, users are required to agree to the new prices, as per a report of Indian Express. According to reports, Google's subscription business, which includes YouTube Premium, has generated over USD 15 billion in annual revenues. In February, YouTube announced that it had surpassed 100 million paid subscribers for YouTube Premium and YouTube Music, an increase from 80 million in November 2022. Additionally, in April, the company informed that viewers using third-party ad-blocker apps might encounter buffering problems or see an error message that the content is not available on the app when attempting to watch a video.
YouTube Premium Plan Details
The monthly student plan for YouTube Premium has increased from INR 79 to INR 89, which is around 12.6 per cent in price hikes. The individual monthly plan has also gone up from INR 129 to INR 149, representing around 15 per cent of the price increase. For the family monthly plan, the cost has risen to INR 299, a 58 per cent increase from the previous price of INR 189. The family monthly plan will allow up to five members to enjoy the benefits of YouTube Premium under a single subscription. Additionally, the individual month, quarterly and annual prepaid plans have also experienced price increases. The individual prepaid month plan now costs INR 159, the prepaid quarterly plan costs INR 459 and the prepaid annual plan costs INR 1,490.
