Mumbai, July 2: AI-generated content on various social media and video hosting platforms have sparked concerns from time to time. In 2024, many videos of celebrities and business people were spotted on multiple social media platforms, websites, ads, and video platforms like YouTube. Most notably, Elon Musk's fake video was found encouraging cryptocurrency on YouTube in January 2024, which made people think that he was encouraging them to invest in the coins.

Now, YouTube has silently taken steps against the practice of uploading AI-generated content on the platform. According to a report by TechCrunch, YouTube changed its policy in June, giving people the power to request the takedown of AI-generated or synthetic content on the platform that features their faces or voices. Meta Updates AI Labels for AI-Generated Content, Replaces ‘Made by AI’ With ‘AI Info’ After Following Feedback From Oversight Board.

The report mentioned that using this new YouTube policy, people can request the removal of such AI content under the platform's privacy request process. In November, YouTube reportedly expanded its previously announced approach to the responsible AI agenda. Unlike before, when people used to request to take down content for misleading like deepfakes, YouTube would allow the affected users to request the removal of content directly as a privacy violation, according to the report.

YouTube's new policy would work in most cases except when the affected person is identified as a minor, is deceased, does not have access to a computer and so on. The report emphasised that just submitting the request would not remove any video on the platform. YouTube would still need to pass its judgement about the submitted request or complaint based on several factors.

YouTube would still consider whether the content was synthetic or made with AI technology. The platform would also see if the video identified the person or used it as a parody, satirical figure or something else. The report highlighted that YouTube would also see if the person in the video is well-known or if that person is shown engaged in criminal activity or violence. The Google-owned video would also find out if the person in the video found endorsing a product or any political candidate. WhatsApp Working on New Feature To Let Users Create Images of Themselves Using Meta AI; Check Details.

After requesting to remove AI-generated content, YouTube would notify the uploader and give him 48 hours to act on the complaint. YouTube would close the complaint if the video was removed on time; otherwise, it would begin an initial review. The platform would also warn the uploader to remove the name and personal details from the title, description, tags, and video. The uploader could also make the video private or remove blue faces from it in compliance with the request.
