Yahoo Messenger Shuts Down; Bids Good Bye to Users After 20 Years of Existence

After 20 years of its existence, Yahoo Messenger Instant Messaging service finally shuts down on July 17, 2018.

It was earlier last month when Yahoo confirmed it will be shutting down the services for the Yahoo Messenger permanently from July 17, 2018. The messenger made its official debut in 1998 as Yahoo! Pager which was rebranded in the year 1999. The messenger service became quite famous for chat rooms as well as chat abbreviations such as ASL for Age, Sex and Location.

The Yahoo Messenger was a quite popular online chat application in the 90s, and its discontinuation will make us nostalgic.

Yahoo previously alerted current users that they can download chat history in next six months, prior closure. The chat history will be mailed to the user on the email id. Another instant chat application - AOL Messenger was also shut down last year on December 15. Similarly, Orkut was also another social media platform that was shut down by Google around four years ago.
