Xiaomi Redmi Y2 Aka Redmi S2 Launching Tomorrow in India; Likely to Be Priced Around Rs 9,999

The upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Y2 will be selfie centric smartphone which could feature 16MP AI-powered selfie camera upfront.

After launching the new Mi 8 flagship smartphone in China last month, Xiaomi is now gearing up to launch an all-new device in the Indian market on June 7. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer will be launching the device at an event in Delhi. The upcoming smartphone under the Redmi series will be a selfie centric device which could be a rebranded version of Redmi S2 that was launched in China last month. Likely to be christened as Redmi Y2, the handset will be introduced as a successor to Redmi Y1. Moreover, the new Redmi Y2 smartphone will be retailed online via Amazon India.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the new Xiaomi Redmi Y2 aka Redmi S2 is expected to carry a 5.99-inch HD+ display with 1440X720 pixels of resolution and aspect ratio of 18:9. To be introduced as a budget smartphone, the device will come powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core chipset.

On the camera front, the upcoming Redmi S2 smartphone will sport a dual camera at the rear featuring 12MP primary sensor and 5MP secondary sensor wherein both the shooters will produce bokeh effect. At the front, the smartphone is expected to carry a 16MP AI-powered shooter along with a portrait mode.

Additional highlights of the smartphone are 3,080mAh battery, rear fingerprint sensor, face unlocking feature and much more. For connectivity, the new upcoming handset will support support 4G VoLTE, micro USB 2.0, an IR blaster, BeiDou, Wi-Fi 802/11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS and more.

As a reminder, the company revealed the new Mi 8 flagship smartphone at its 8th anniversary event in China alongside Mi 8 SE smartphone. The company also unveiled the new products like MIUI 10 and Mi Band 3 at the event. Moreover, it is also rumored that Xiaomi could launch Redmi 6, Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 Pro in China next week.
