Xiaomi, a popular Chinese smartphone maker has officially launched the new Redmi S2 smartphone in China today. Priced at CNY 999 (roughly Rs. 10,600) for the base variant, the smartphone is introduced as a selfie centric smartphone with AI portrait mode. It is first device from Xiaomi in the Redmi S series which is touted as best Redmi selfie phone ever bagging 16MP sensor upfront with 2-micron pixels. The new Redmi S2 smartphone will be available in 2 variants - 3GB RAM/32GB of storage and 64GB RAM/64GB of storage. The smartphone carries a 5.99-inch HD+ display at the front with 720X1440 pixels resolution. It comes powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor mated with either 3GB or 4GB RAM depending on the variant purchased. The device is offered in 3 colours - Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver, and Rose Gold colour variants.
For optics, the newly launched device sports dual camera at the rear featuring 12MP primary sensor along with 5MP secondary sensor. On the other hand, the camera upfront is a 16MP snapper with 2-microns pixels for selfies and video calling. The device comes fitted with a battery backup of 3080mAh while the dimensions measures 160.73x77.26x8.1mm with weight of 170 grams.
As far as the pricing is concerned, the top end variant of the new Redmi S2 smartphone is priced at CNY 1,299 (roughly Rs. 13,700). For connectivity, the smartphone gets 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Micro-USB port. It also gets sensors such as accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gyroscope, infrared, and proximity sensor.
