After launching the new Redmi S2 smartphone in the China last week, Xiaomi is gearing up to launch the same in the domestic market. Slated to launch on June 7, the company has confirmed the arrival of the first smartphone under the S series from Xiaomi via its Redmi India Twitter handle. The Chinese smartphone maker is likely to christen the smartphone as Redmi Y2 inspite of S2 according to the market reports. The tweet from the company specifies the arrival of the best selfie smartphone which was notably teased as Redmi S2. Once launched in the country, the new Redmi S2 or Y2 will compete against Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 and Honor 9 Lite. As far as the specifications go, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 smartphone gets a 5.99-inch HD+ plus display with 720x1440p resolution and 70.8 percent NTSC color gamut. To be powered by Snapdragon 625 SoC, the dual SIM Redmi S2 smartphone will run on MIUI 9 and will be fitted with up to 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB of internal storage.

For optics, the smartphone will sport a dual camera setup at the rear featuring 12MP primary sensor and 5MP secondary sensor along with 16MP snapper upfront for selfies and video calling. Touted as best selfie smartphone, the handset from Xiaomi will also support features such as AI Portrait Mode, AI Smart Beauty, Front HDR, and Face Unlock. Other noteable features likely to be seen on the new Redmi S2 (Redmi Y2) are 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, and Micro-USB port and packs a 3080mAh battery. As far as the prices are concerned, the 32GB variant of the Redmi S2 comes with a price tag of CNY 999 which is approximately Rs. 10,600 whereas the bigger 4GB variant is offered at CNY 1,299 (which is around Rs. 13,700). Expect more details and specifications rolling out on the internet ahead of its scheduled launch.
