WhatsApp Working on New Feature to Stop Fake News
WhatsApp is creating a new feature to stop the spread of fake news on its platform and thereby save innocent lives from being lost.
WhatsApp, one of the most used instant messenger application is currently emphasizing on making its platform more safe and hack-proof. The Facebook-owned company has been reported to be in the development of a new feature that lets the user identify malicious links, spams and phishing sites. As per the reports from WABetaInfo, the Suspicious Link Detection feature is currently under testing that will curb spam messages on the WhatsApp platform. Going by the reports, the new feature - Suspicious Link Detection will notify the spam message with a highlighted red label. This new feature will be applicable for the group and private chats. If the user wishes to open the labelled link even after WhatsApp spotting it, the user will be warned with a pop-up message reminding the link to be harmful. So far there is no date specified for the release of the Suspicious Link Detection feature for the iOS & Android platforms but we can expect the roll out soon. Previously, Whatsapp tested a new feature on the beta version which was aimed to identify source of the information; the Forwarded label allowed the user to identify messages whether it is written or forwarded. The user would be able to gauge the credibility of the message and thus be informed of its source. The Suspicious Link Detection feature comes in wake of the recent lynching incident which led to innocent lives being lost, to which the IT Ministry asked WhatsApp to action to stop fake new being spread.
