New Delhi, August 29: WhatsApp, the Meta-owned platform, is reportedly working on a new update that could enhance the security of user's backup data. The WhatsApp new update is expected to introduce an optional passkey feature for end-to-end encrypted backups. Users could have more control over their data with the WhatsApp new feature update. The update is expected to provide an extra layer of protection for WhatsApp user’s backup data.

As per a report of Times Now, WhatsApp is developing a passkey feature to give its users more security options for their backup data. Currently, WhatsApp offers end-to-end encryption for messages, but the new feature will likely allow users to secure their backups with a unique passkey. WhatsApp New Feature Update: Meta-Owned Instant Messaging Platform Introduces AR Effects and Filters for Video Calls for iPhone Users; Check Details.

A passkey is a special type of digital credential that makes it easier and safer for you to log into your accounts. Instead of using traditional passwords, a passkey allows you to use your fingerprint, face scan, or phone screen lock to authenticate yourself. The passkey feature will be an additional option for users. It means that users can choose to set a passkey for their backup data, which would be required whenever they attempt to restore the backup.

In the latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.18.13 was found that WhatsApp is reportedly developing a passkey feature for end-to-end encrypted backups. WhatsApp will likely allow to use passkeys to provide an extra layer of security when backing up your chats. Only authorised users will be able to access and restore their chat history with this feature to make chats are protected. Google Gemini Integration: Google AI Likely To Soon Handle WhatsApp, Google Messages and Android Notifications; Check Details.

WhatsApp currently allows users to protect their data with end-to-end encrypted backups. Users can secure their backups using either a custom password or a 64-bit encryption key. Although using custom passwords or encryption keys for securing data provides a strong level of security, it might be difficult for users to remember complex passwords or manage lengthy encryption keys. However, WhatsApp is working on a new feature called passkey for end-to-end encrypted backups. The feature is still being developed and will likely be included in a future update.
