New Delhi, July 3: Millions of users had problem sending photos, videos and voice messages on WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram apps on Wednesday. WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram were down in several parts of the world. Users reported that they were unable to share or download photos on Facebook-owned apps. While Instagram services recovered after a brief outage, Facebook and WhatsApp continued to remain down.
"Can't download. Please ask that it be resent to you," says WhatsApp download failed message. Facebook confirmed to The Sun that there is a problem with its apps, and it's "working as quickly as possible" to fix it. It appears that the technical issue is related to the photo-sharing feature of WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram apps. While users were able to send messages and utilise other features, they were unable to upload and download images. Images uploaded on WhatsApp status were not visible to other contacts. Instagram users also complained that they faced issues with the News Feed. It remains unclear what caused the outage. While some users faced problems on all three apps, others had just on Instagram or on both Instagram and Facebook. In April this year, services of Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp were unavailable in several parts of the country. Google apps like YouTube, Gmail and Nest along with photo-messaging app Snapchat suffered major outages across the US and some parts of Europe in March this year.
In March, Facebook and its family of apps recorded the longest outage ever that lasted for 12 hours worldwide. The social networking giant blamed on a server configuration change that kept over one billion users from logging into their accounts, sharing posts on its networks including Instagram.
