According to the report from WABetaInfo, the company is planning to introduce a dark mode to WhatsApp, similar to the one that we have already seen on YouTube and Telegram in the past. The report also highlighted that the dark mode will bring along a dark theme for the app that the users can set on their smartphones. The WABetaInfo's report also highlighted that the advantages of dark mode will be seen on the battery life particularly if the user uses WhatsApp a lot. As the fact that, the dark colors on screen are easier to power, thus users with excessive usage of WhatsApp is expected to see a difference in battery life. Moreover, the dark theme will be easier on the eyes of the users. As of now, WhatsApp employs a default white background on both Android as well as iOS.
The Facebook-owned company will introduce the dark mode of WhatsApp on both Android as well as iOS, however, there is no timeline for this new feature. It is believed that this feature is currently in the initial stage of development. The company could roll out this new black mode feature to beta users on Android and iOS platforms, prior rolling out the stable version.
