As per reports, the scam involves fraudsters pretending to be from the Customs Department or Police. These scammers often create a sense of urgency or fear, which makes people believe that they need to act quickly to protect themselves or their belongings. As a result, people may unknowingly share sensitive information and put themselves at risk.
It is important for everyone to be aware of these tactics and to protect their personal information from such scams. As per a report of ET Now, parcel scammers call victims, posing as representatives from the Customs Department or the Police. Scammers are said to tell victims that a courier or package has been booked in their name and that it contains illegal items, as per a report of Times of India. ICICI Bank has reportedly informed that scammers trick their victims into thinking they are being digitally arrested. During these conversations, the fraudsters pressure the victims to share sensitive personal information.
They often ask the victims to send money to a fake Reserve Bank of India (RBI) account and request details like Aadhaar numbers and other forms of identification, as well as bank information. It is all part of their plan to steal money from the victims.
