New Delhi, May 25: Walmart, the retail giant in the United States, plans to lay off thousands of corporate positions in California and Texas, according to recent filings with state employment authorities. The retail giant requires most remote workers to relocate to one of three central hubs in Arkansas, New Jersey or Northern California.

Employees at the affected locations are anticipated to be let go starting on August 9. The job cuts are projected to take place over the following months, extending into early 2025. Walmart also indicated that some employees would be granted the opportunity to work remotely on a part-time basis.

Walmart has announced that 388 employees working at their San Bruno facility and an additional 180 employees reporting to the Sunnyvale location may face potential layoffs if they are unable to secure alternative positions within the company or obtain the necessary resources to relocate. In Texas, approximately 1,472 employees will be affected by these layoffs. According to the WARN notices filed by Walmart, over 200 employees at the Carrollton facility in Texas could be affected if they are unable to relocate or secure employment with the company by August 9. The Carrollton facility, which has call centre employees, is scheduled to close on that date. Additionally, 1,266 employees at the Dallas facility could be laid off if they cannot relocate to one of Walmart's primary hubs.
