Two telecom operators in the country Idea Cellular and Vodafone India have merged together to form Vodafone Idea Limited, the largest mobile phone company in the country. The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved the merger of the two companies and the merger news was announced in style on Twitter. Keeping up with the way people were discussing the merger, the gossips around them, both these companies 'made it official' on Twitter as well. The relationship announcement is now on social media.
This largest merger now beats Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio behind. They now have 408 million active subscribers and a revenue market share of 32.2%. Idea Cellular announced the merger with a regulatory filing, "We wish to inform you that pursuant to filing of the NCLT orders with the relevant Registrars of Companies on 31st August, 2018, the Scheme has become effective on even date and the merger of VMSL (Vodafone Mobile services Ltd)and VIL (Vodafone India Ltd) with the Company has been completed." Kumar Mangalam Birla is the chairman of the new merged company while Balesh Sharma heads it. Talking about the big news he said, "Today, we have created India’s leading telecom operator. It is about our Vision of empowering and enabling a New India and meeting the aspirations of the youth of our country." With the new telecom company in existence, users will get more attractive offers on tariff rates and internet data schemes.
