New Delhi, April 27: DJI, a prominent Chinese drone manufacturer, is currently under scrutiny by the US government for potential national security risks. This consideration might lead the US Government to potentially restrict the operations of these widely popular drones within its borders. US authorities might be worried that the drones might collect sensitive data and share it with the Chinese government.
As per a report of CNBC TV18, the US may soon impose a ban on DJI. The Chinese drone manufacturer, following allegations that these drones could be used to transmit US critical infrastructure data back to China. According to a report of The Verge, a bill advanced by the House of Energy and Commerce Committee last month could potentially shut down DJI's operation of drones across the country. The Countering CCP Drones Act is based on the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019, which prevents communications services that pose a national security risk from operating on US networks and bars the use of federal funds to purchase such equipment. This might add DJI, a prominent Chinese drone manufacturer, to the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) list of banned communications equipment.
Chinese technology giants like Huawei and ZTE are already blacklisted. The Countering CCP Drones Act might extend these restrictions to DJI, potentially closing the company's widely used drones in the United States. The US House of Representatives is expected to vote on the Countering CCP Drones Act within the next month.
