Nairobi, August 13: TikTok layoffs now affected the African workforce amid the platform's efforts of global restructuring. This year, TikTok laid off hundreds of people amid legal battles and reorganisation of business. The ByteDance-owned video hosting platform reportedly planned to lay off around 1,000 people in May affecting departments like content operations and marketing.

According to a local report by Techcabal, several African employees were laid off in March and June as the social media platform announced massive global layoffs. In June 2024, TikTok's layoff affected more employees in content operations, marketing and trust and safety teams compared to March, when a few were sacked.
