Threads Testing New Disappearing Post Feature Similar to ‘Fleet’ Started by Twitter in 2020 Before Elon Musk’s Takeover

Meta's Threads platform testing a new "disappearing post" feature for the users. Using this new Threads feature, they can make their posts disappear within 24 hours. This feature is reportedly similar to the "Fleet" started by Twitter in 2020 before Elon Musk took over the platform.

San Francisco, August 24: Threads, an online social networking app from Meta Platforms has been working on a new feature that will make the posts disappear automatically within a set time. This could be a great feature for Threads users who delete their posts regularly using any third-party tools. Just like WhatsApp where statuses disappear after 24 hours, the "ephemeral posts" feature developed by Meta for Threads will also have posts with time limit before they are gone.

TechCrunch reported that the Threads ephemeral posts feature would be rolled out soon for the users and said that it was in development as an "internal prototype". Once published, the Threads post countdown would begin showing the time left for automatic deletion of the post. Meta reportedly confirmed this new feature to TechCrunch and mentioned that the posts would disappear within 24 hours. Elon Musk Reacts to Arrest of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, Says ‘Dangerous Times’.

The report said that the Meta spokesperson highlighted that it would be a new feature and a casual way to share on Threads. The spokesperson did not provide details on whether the new feature was specific to a region or who could activate it. However, Alessandro Paluzzi, a mobile developer and reverse engineer, posted an image on Threads highlighting the disappearing posts.

The image showed a 24-hour button showing that Meta's platform would allow the users to make the post last a day. The button was placed right beside the post option which might hint that it could work separately from regular posts. The inventor of hashtags, Chris Messina, also confirmed that Threads was adding a "24H" disappearing post option. He said, "Your thread and all replies will disappear in 24 hours." 'Prove You Deserve It': Elon Musk Asks X Staff To Submit One Page Summary of Their Contribution to Company To Get Award of Stock Options.

Chris Messina said that once the timer ends, the post would no longer be available on the platform. He said that Threads allowed access to this feature with the fediverse soon. The report highlighted that before Elon Musk took over Twitter, it started the disappearing posts in 2020. Back then, it was called "Fleets". However, due to low usage of this feature, Twitter shut it down.
