Tortola, September 24: Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, who was recently arrested for criminality on the instant messaging platform, has announced to share the users' data, including their IP addresses and phone numbers, with government authorities. The details will be shared with the authorities that can issue search warrants and other valid legal requests.
Pavel Durov announced the change in the terms of service and privacy policy to discourage criminals. The Telegram CEO said in his post that the team was making Telegram safer by leveraging AI, and all the problematic content was identified and made the Search safer. In his post, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov said that the platform had updated its Terms of Service and Privacy Policy to ensure consistency worldwide. He said that the IP addresses and phone numbers of individuals who violated the rules would be disclosed to the relevant authorities in response to valid legal requests.
He emphasised that these new measures would ensure to discourage the criminals on the platforms. Durov said, "Telegram Search is meant for finding friends and discovering news, not promoting illegal goods." Promising the security and safety of the users, he said that Telegram would not let the bad actors jeopardise the integrity of the platform, which had around a billion users.
Last month, Pavel Durov was detained in Paris and questioned by French authorities over the platform's misuse. He shared his first outburst on social media when the authorities said any illegal activities happening on the platform would be the responsibility of the owner. Netizens and critics said that Telegram had become a place for criminals and misinformation that promoted child pornography and terror-related content.
