Mumbai, August 24: Mumbai Police has reportedly shut down a telegram group called "BJ Tech Knowledge" on charges of content privacy. This group was involved in illegally distributing the streamed content including TV shows and movies owned by the major broadcast companies like Viacom18, Zee, Sony and Disney Star. The person who this group was arrested by Mumbai police following a complaint filed against it.

ET reported that a Disney Star filed a complaint against the BJ Tech Knowledge group on the Telegram platform. The Mumbai police apprehended Balaji Asaram Jaybhaye who was operating the group to spread the streamed content from such big broadcast giants. Artificial Intelligence Not Threat for Content Creation Economy, Says Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

Balaji Asaram Jaybhaye reportedly operated the BJ Tech Knowledge group on Instagram at NM Joshi Marg Police Station in Mumbai. An FIR was registered against the group on August 27 leading to the arrest of this individual.  The report suggested that the individual had around 5,000 people who joined the group BJ Tech Knowledge group which sold the URLs of the streamed content for INR 300 each.

The movies and TV shows are exclusively owned by the broadcast channels which can be watched only through paid subscription. With such an act of spreading the content, the companies suffer financially when the same content is provided at a lesser price. 

According to a report by Indian Television, Telegram has become a leading source of pirating content throughout Asia due to which the content providers and operators suffered massive revenue losses. Such individuals share pirated images, texts, videos and other forms of files that are copyright-protected. The report said that due to the popularity of Telegram offering an intuitive interface and encryption, the streaming pirates use the platform extensively to illegally distribute the content and charge money
