Chennai, August 13: Amid the ongoing wave of tech layoffs across the world this year, the Indian IT sector has shown some positive signs as the leading companies are about to hire many tech students in the country.  IT majors like TCS, Cognizant, and Accenture are interested in hiring freshers from colleges in Tamil Nadu, India, such as CEG and MIT. 

According to a report by Times of India, TCS, Cognizant, and Accenture are set to visit the engineering colleges in Chennai next month for campus recruitment. In September, these companies will hire talented IT freshers and offer them a salary package after selection. P. Further, she said that another tech giant, Cognizant, already sent a list of areas in which it wanted the students to get training. The principal of Easwari Engineering College also highlighted that normal recruiting would likely resume this year. Another tech company, Accenture, would likely go for campus hiring in the same college. 

The report mentioned that a placement officer in Chennai said that TCS would hire freshers in three categories: Ninja, Digital, and Prime. The salary package would also change based on the category. INR 7 lakh per year would be offered to the students in the digital and prime categories. The UG students would reportedly be offered INR 9 lakh per annum. The Ninja category would have a lower salary package than the digital and prime categories. 

The placement officer reportedly informed me that most of the hiring would be done in these two categories, and students with good programming skills and projects would be selected for the job. The report mentioned that the colleges, including CEG and MIT, had already trained their students and prepared them with interview techniques, problem-solving and Python programming before the placement season began. 

Anna University's director of the Centre for University-Industry Collaboration, K Shanmuga Sundaram, said that tech giants like Google and Microsoft had visited the campus after a long hiatus of 12 years. He further added that 45 companies would be ready to hire students by September. Around 95 companies were interested in visiting several institutions, including Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Guindy, College of Engineering and Alagappa College of Technology in 2024. SNN College of Engineering in Tamil Nadu also witnessed a 30% rise in the registration of companies for campus placements.  Rajalakshmi Engineering College also expects to get more offers with the return of IT companies. Most colleges and educational institutions are heading for a massive recruitment phase from several big names in the tech industry.
