Mumbai, August 3: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) recently invested a huge amount in the Indian government-owned BSNL, which focused on building data centres. According to reports, this move was aimed at bringing the Tata Group back to telecommunication after a long exit. TCS invested INR 15,000 crore in BSNL, which is expected to bring advancements to the four major regions.

Tata Group provided telecom services through Tata Docomo, a joint venture between Tata and Japan-based NTT Docomo, was defunct on July 1, 2019 and no longer provided the telecommunication services. The previous report by Fortune India about Tata Group coming back to telecommunication said that the company had consolidated with Tejas Networks to boost its telecom business. A new report by DNA India highlighted that Tata Group's collaboration with BNSL would revive the company and offer the customers several benefits. Bungie Layoffs: Sony Interactive Entertainment-Owned Video Game Developer Going Through Major Changes After Its Second Round of Job Cuts, Says Report.

The report further mentioned that the BSNL-Tata partnership is expected to bring high speed internet to India's rural areas. The plan offered by the companies would cover 1,000 villages where BSNL was already running its trials for the 4G network from the 3G network. The report said that the investment in BSNL was part of a strategic involvement, not a purchase, debunking the rumours and speculation about Tata purchasing the company.

The tariff hike announcement by the current telecom players in the market, including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, impacted several customers, and some also switched to BSNL. Following this, the government-owned telecommunication company also started focusing on 5G networks and will soon begin trials before the rollout. Elon Musk Confirms Second Human Implant by Neuralink on Lex Fridman Podcast (Watch Video).

The BSNL 5G network launch has been speculated about for years. The people of India who have been using the current 3G networks expect to switch to 4G and, subsequently, to 5G technology. This announcement of a partnership between BSNL and Tata is expected to bring new plans to the customers who have been looking for a change or cheaper alternatives.
