San Francisco, April 24: Valve Corporation's Steam has updated its refund policy and brought new changes to the video game digital distribution platform. Steam said it brought only new changes to the company's refund policy portions regarding the "pre-purchased titles". The latest Steam Refund Policy Update would cover the game titles in pre-purchase in "Early Access" and "Advanced access" programmes.
In its official announcement, the video game digital distribution platform shared the details about the Steam Refunds. Steam said that the customers or players could request a refund for almost all the purchases made on the platform. It highlighted that the reasons could be purchasing any game by mistake, disliking a game after playing it for an hour and if the game did not meet the PC requirements. However, the new Steam Refund Policy might stop refunding the gamers under certain new changes. Steam said that Valve Corporation would "issue a refund for any reason, if the request is made within the required return period, and, in the case of games, if the title has been played for less than two hours". The refund request would need to be made on help.steampowered.com. The Verge reported about the new Steam Refund Policy update and said that Valve Corporation offered "no-question-asked" refunds eight years ago, involving players asking for a refund within 14 days of purchase and if the players did not complete two hours of gameplay.

However, the report said that if Valve would let the users play the game titles ahead of their release under "Early Access" or "Advanced Access" programmes, it also rolled out a loophole. The report said that by taking advantage of this loophole, the gamers would play the game for hours and hours before it was launched and still ask for a refund. The report said that the long-running loop would now be closed for all the Steam accounts. It said that the Early Access and Advanced Access playtime would be counted against the two-hour refund limit, a fair measure to prevent abuse of the refund system. In its official post, Steam said that the refunds two-hour playtime limit for refunds would apply except for beta testing. Steam said, "If you pre-purchase a title which is not playable prior to the release date, you can request a refund at any time prior to release of that title, and the standard 14-day/two-hour refund period will apply starting on the game’s release date.
