In January 2019, once again the planet earth will witness a rare lunar celestial event when the supermoon will combine with the date of the total lunar eclipse. As per some conspiracy theorists, this day will fulfil one of the biblical prophecies. Although the Bible does not mention the term 'blood moon' it has mentioned about the moon turning to red before the doomsday. In Book of Joel Chapter 2 of King James version of the Bible, a prediction is made that there will be disasters in all corners of the planet as the moon turns to dark. Since the upcoming event is not blood moon, but a super blood moon, it will be trigger even more calamities. From No Sex to Getting Pregnant, Here Are Some Weird Superstitions Associated With Lunar Eclipses.

Meanwhile, experts have ensured people to not believe these claims. They have said the moon turning red has nothing to do with any disasters but it changes colour only due to the refraction phenomenon. According to the explanation given by Royal Museums Greenwich, "During a total lunar eclipse, the Moon usually turns a deep, dark red because it is illuminated by light that has passed through the Earth's atmosphere and has been bent back towards the Moon by refraction. Dust in the atmosphere blocks out the higher frequency blue light waves, but the longer wavelength of red light comes through."

The total lunar eclipse is known as the blood moon when the earth is directly between the sun and the moon. The moon is covered in the earth's shadow and thus appears to become darker. This time the moon will be closer to the earth so it is called supermoon. In the early start of 2017, we saw a Supermoon, a total lunar eclipse and a blue moon together.
