What Exactly is a Solar Eclipse?
When the moon passes between the earth and the sun, it blocks part or all of the sun's light from reaching the earth. It's as if the moon is briefly blocking our vision of the sun. Solar eclipses are classified into three types:
- Total Solar Eclipse: When the Moon totally covers the Sun, a black circle appears in the sky. During a total solar eclipse, the Sun's outer atmosphere, known as the solar corona, is visible.
- Partial Solar Eclipse: A partial solar eclipse occurs when the Moon covers only a section of the Sun, creating the illusion that the Sun has been eaten.
- Annular Solar Eclipse: An annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon is at its furthest point from Earth (apogee) and looks somewhat smaller than the Sun. As a result, the sun's outer ring is visible, producing a "ring of fire" impression.
When and Where Can One See the Solar Eclipse?
An annular solar eclipse will occur on October 14. The solar eclipse will be visible in India from 11:29 pm to 11:34 pm.
What Exactly is a Lunar Eclipse?
When the Earth passes between the sun and the moon, it casts a shadow on the moon's surface, causing a lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse can only be seen on a full moon, and it's a spectacular sight to see.
