Rare Insects & Reptiles Worth Rs. 28 Lakhs Stolen From a Philadelphia Insectarium
A vast medley of insects and lizards worth more than 40,000 dollars (over Rs. 28 Lakhs) which includes a venomous, six-eyed spider are missing.
There are so many rarest species on earth which we did not even know ever existed. Some are so rare that they might already be extinct, and we do not know about it yet. However, some can still be found in captivity who takes good care of them. Much like the Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion who have adorned some rare insects and reptiles since a few years, which are even labelled as expensive ones. The Police officials are in search and suspect it as an inside job, any current or former employees must have done that. According to the New York Times, about 90 per cent of the animals were stolen, and the incident occurred on August 22 and possibly other days. The police further informed that staff uniforms were found stabbed into a wall with knives. John Cambridge, the chief executive of the insectarium, believes that someone was quick to recognise an opportunity to remove some creatures. About three current or former employees of the Insectarium are the suspects. However, no arrests have been made yet. At present, the police have contacted the accused and are looking for their homes, hoping to find the surviving insects. “They are extremely easy to hide,” Dr Cambridge was quoted as saying in the same report. Some of the insects, including a Mexican fireleg tarantula, were returned to the Insectarium. The Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion is an educational staple to entire Eastern Pennsylvania and its surrounding areas. They opened their doors to the public in February 2017 has started a GoFundMe campaign to help with renovations and also replace some of the missing insects.
