The Perseid meteor shower is a result of debris particles of the Swift-Tuttle comet which flare-up in the atmosphere of the Earth, giving an illusion of falling stars. It starts kicking from mid-July and is active through August but the peak point will be between August 11 and August 13 this year. According to the American Meteor Society, "Normal rates seen from rural locations range from 50-75 shower members per hour at maximum."

The best place to observe a meteor shower is to get away from the city, with not much light pollution around. Dark skies will definitely get one a better view of the falling stars.
