Scientists from Finland have found a new species of wasp and they are terrifying. Scientifically named Clistopyga crassicaudata, the species have been found in the Andes mountains and the Amazon rainforests. The stinger of these wasps is no less than a weapon, which is as good as its size. It is long and wide and is particularly gruesome as the scientists mention. It is said that these wasps use these stingers to paralyse their prey, particularly spiders.

According to Ilari E. Sääksjärvi, a professor at the University of Turku, "I have studied tropical parasitoid wasps for a long time, but I have never seen anything like it. The stinger looks like a fierce weapon." The stingers of these wasps have multiple uses- either to inject venom or lay eggs. These kinds of wasps from the Clistopyga family typically find spider nests, paralyses the spider with the venom. It then lays its eggs on the spider. “The giant stinger of the current species is very likely a highly sophisticated tool as well, but unfortunately we can only guess at its purpose,” said Professor Sääksjärvi. Ocean Zone Discovered in Bermuda: Territory is Home to over 100 New Species of Marine Life.

Several new genera and species of wasps have discovered in recent years and each of it is unique from the previous ones. This new species is distinguished by its deadly stinger. They belong to the rare Clistopyga genus.
