July 20 is a landmark day in the history of space science and technology. The Apollo 11 took off from the Kennedy Space Center took off on July 16. 1969 at 13:32 UTC. It entered the lunar orbit on July 19 and landed on July 20, at 20:17 UTC. As Armstrong stepped off the ladder and put his step on the moon's surface, a TV camera attached to the module sent the progress back to the Earth. Both these astronauts spent about 21 hours 31 minutes on the lunar surface at a site they named Tranquility Base. They took off on July 22 and landed back on the Earth in the Pacific Ocean on July 24.
