The Loch Ness monster has been a mystery for decades and now an expert on the same who studied Nessie, as it is fondly referred, admitted the monster may not exist at all! Dr Darren Naish has been studying the Loch Ness for more than 20 years now and his hopes have crashed concluding it is a myth after all. He says that given the access to digital cameras and smartphones if Nessie actually existed someone would have captured it by now. Dr Naish is a zoologist from the University of Southampton. He was speaking at the Cheltenham Science Festival when he said there are no real photographs which show Loch Ness clearly. He told the audience at the festival, "Last year was a particularly good year for Nessie, with four or five photos, but they're all terrible. They're all just random blobs on the water and it's like, why would you think that's an unknown animal?" He further added if the people saw something similar elsewhere in the world, they wouldn't bother. But because the Loch Ness legend is so popular, people expect anything to look like the river monster.
He also said that Loch Ness now exists only in people's 'psyche'. Dr Naish is an expert in dinosaurs, animals and evolution. He stressed on having definite evidence of the monster/creature by now. Meanwhile, the legend of Loch Ness comes from aeons ago. It started when Irish monk St Columba witnessed local Picts burying a man. Apparently, this man was attacked by a creature in the Loch. There are notes of the Nessie in Scottish folklore.
