Deep-Sea Snailfish That Melts on Surface Discovered by Scientists in Atacama Trench, Watch Video
The snailfish, as they are called are so fragile in their structure that they would melt by the time they are brought on the surface.
The earth's underwater surface has so many amazing creatures and fish species that we have not even heard off. Now scientists have found three new fishes underwater in the eastern Pacific Ocean and they are really intriguing. This fish is so squishy and soft that they would melt if brought to the surface. Scientists have studied them in detail by observing them in their home environment. The group of scientists carried out an expedition to the Atacama Trench, which is located nearly 160 kilometres off the coast of Peru and Chile. Scientists have called these creatures, "the pink, the blue and the purple Atacama Snailfish." To study the behaviour of these newly-discovered species, they sent a baited camera upto 7,500 meters underwater. They managed to trap one fish in their bait but had to be extremely careful when it had to be brought up. Flying Fish in Utah! Look-wise these fishes are not scary or have huge teeth, but have a rather attractive appearance. These fishes have bones and teeth as the hardest parts in their body. "Without the extreme pressure and cold to support their bodies, they are extremely fragile and melt rapidly when brought to the surface," said Thomas Linley, one of the researchers.
These fishes are adapted to living in the extreme pressure environment and their bones and teeth help in giving them a balance. In an environment with a lack of cold, they start melting rapidly. Isn't it intriguing how certain creatures are so diverse than what we know of?
