Sriharikota, July 22:  Chandrayaan 2, India’s second moon mission, is set for a launch today at 2:43 pm, after the ambitious project had to be called off last week on Sunday, July 15 due to a 'technical glitch'. The much-anticipated launch was aborted hardly an hour before the Chandrayaan 2 mission was about to take off. The Rs 978 crore mission will be launched from the second launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh today. The heavy-lift rocket GSLV MkIII-M1 is expected to take 54 days to accomplish the mission of landing on the moon. It is named Baahubali.

After it is launched, the Rs 978 crore Chandrayaan-2 mission is aimed to make India the fifth nation in the world to land and ride on the lunar surface. The other four nations that had achieved this feat are Russia, the US, Japan and China. India launched its maiden moon mission Chandrayaan-1 on October 22, 2008.
