Chandrayaan 2 Launched: NASA Congratulates ISRO on Successfully Dispatching India's 2nd Mission to Moon

Hours after Chandrayaan 2 was launched from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on Monday, leading space agency NASA congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on the successful launch. NASA in a tweet said that it is looking forward to the findings of the Chandrayaan 2.

Washington, July 22: Hours after Chandrayaan 2 was launched from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on Monday, leading space agency NASA congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on the successful launch. NASA tweeted, “Congrats to @ISRO on the launch of Chandrayaan 2, a mission to study the Moon. We're proud to support your mission comms using our Deep Space Network and look forward to what you learn about the lunar South pole where we will send astronauts on our #Artemis mission in a few years.”

India's second mission to the moon Chandrayaan 2 successfully took off at 2:43 pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. With this launch, India became the fourth nation -- after the United States, China and Russia -- to successfully perform a "soft landing" on the moon.  Chandrayaan  2 will land at a place near the South Pole to carry out scientific experiments.

The spacecraft was launched from GSLV Mk III nicknamed ‘Bahubali’. The mission was aborted on July 15 due to a technical snag developed in GSLV Mk III. To witness the spectacular show, a total of 7,500 persons had registered online with the ISRO to watch the historic event.
