The Blue Moon is also referred to as flower moon after the flowers that bloom in the month of May. The first recorded use of the term Blue Moon in English dates from 1528. As per speculations, the term originates from an old English phrase that means 'betrayer Moon' or a reference to rare events, such as when dust in the atmosphere actually makes the Moon appear blue. The term 'Blue Moon' has also been used for the second full Moon in a month that has two full Moons since the 1940s.
