A blue moon is a rare celestial event which happens only a dozen blue moons. It is either the third of four full moons in a season, or a second full moon in a month of the common calendar. After two Blue Moons this year, the Blue moon 2019 in May has light up the skies on Vesak. It is the seasonal Blue also known as full flower blue moon. However, Blue Moon 2019 is not blue as the name suggests. The name simply refers to the fact that it is the fourth full moon of the season, when there are only three full moons in a season. Next blue moon will only rise again in the sky in 2021. Pink Moon 2019: Gorgeous Full Moon Graces Skies Across the World on Good Friday, Check Pics And Videos.
2019 has already seen a number of events including the blood moon, pink moon, super worm moon, all of them named after occurrences or the seasons. The Blue Moon is also referred to as flower moon after the flowers that bloom in the month of May. The first recorded use of the term Blue Moon in English dates from 1528. As per speculations, the term originates from an old English phrase that means 'betrayer Moon' or a reference to rare events, such as when dust in the atmosphere actually makes the Moon appear blue. The term 'Blue Moon' has also been used for the second full Moon in a month that has two full Moons since the 1940s. This weekend the skies will also be host to many celestial events. NASA in a statement said, "By the morning of the full moon on 18 May 2019, as morning twilight begins, Jupiter will appear in the south-southwest about 23 degrees above the horizon and Saturn will appear in the south about 30 degrees above the horizon. Venus will be rising about seven minutes after morning twilight begins but should be visible low in the east-northeast until about 30 minutes before sunrise. Mercury will not be visible, lost in the glow of the sun."
